Old navy discounts:
Do you shop at Old Navy? Old Navy has created a site that you can visit to get some pretty good discount coupons. This site went live last Thursday but the coupons were gone very quickly. You can click around on this website and find coupons for your next Old Navy purchase. The coupons are hidden on the web page and you have to literally hunt for them. However, you can also check on this thread for updates on where people have found some coupons. There are a limited amount of each coupon and the site is updated weekly. They have anything from 5% off a purchase to $75 off a $100 purchase. (I'd love to find that one!) I clicked around today and found the 5% and 10% off coupon and it was only valid through 3/5/2009. I've heard that the coupons are updated sometime on Thursdays. I am definitely going to keep checking back today to try and find the high value coupons before they are all gone.

You CAN Live Better On A Budget
In today’s economy, we all need to stretch our dollars. Spiking gas prices and grocery bills means a little less splurging and a bit more budgeting. We know that scrimping and saving is never fun, but here is five ways you can save without totally giving up the luxuries you love.

5 Money-Savers
1. Save on groceries. The key here is to plan, plan, plan. Put together a grocery list of items that you’ll need for the next two weeks. Then cross check to see if any of those items are on sale at your local stores. Look for money-saving coupons online or in your Sunday newspapers. Sometimes you can even cut costs by buying certain items in bulk. ( I look at all the sales adds first, and make menus with what is on sale and what I have allready in my cupboards)

2. Smart cooking. Now’s the time to really think about the foods you want to prepare and be creative with them. For some recipes, you can modify them to substitute with cheaper ingredients that would still give you the same results. Also, there are recipe ideas out there that are easy on the wallet but still deliver delicious results – from simple delicious recipes that just use a few ingredients to recipes that use most ingredients that you might already have in your pantry. Check out our budget-friendly recipe ideas here!

3. Learn to find deals. Are you a self-proclaimed “shop-a-holic”? Learn to skip the mall and find better deals online for clothes, shoes, and accessories. Plus, if you buy several items at once, you can usually save big on shipping costs. If there’s a store at the mall you just can’t give up, sign up for their online newsletter for access to coupons and to get the heads up on their next in-store sale. (lots of times shipping is free, and you can get coupons for these stores. I have coupons right now for Menards, Kohl's, Target, Best Buy, Big lots ect.)

4. Find a less expensive way to socialize. Meeting up with friends often means shelling out lots of cash at a fancy restaurant. Even budget-friendly restaurants can wreak havoc on your budget if you go too often. So try a new way to socialize—set up a dinner club schedule with your pals. Each person can host the group for dinner and everyone brings a potluck dish. This lets your group spend time together and showcase their culinary skills, while saving you all on pricy restaurant bills, parking, and tips.

5. Bring the fun and experience home. Don’t feel like you’re missing out on that overpriced cup of coffee every morning. You can save money by setting up an at-home coffee bar. Buying a new coffee or espresso machine will ultimately save you a lot. Get a few extras, like chocolate shavings or a bottle of flavored syrup, and you can enjoy a hot cup of Joe at home for much less.And instead of heading to the theater, rent a flick at home. Lots of mail-in services make it much cheaper to watch a recent release. As an added bonus, you’ll save on those outrageous concession stand costs—pop your own popcorn or make your own snacks at half the price. (also for those in the know. You can get codes called redbox rentals to use ( mine is in our Wal-mart) and the movie rental is free for that day.

Apple Walnut Pork with Green Beans and Wild Rice
Ingredients1 lb pork roast ($1.39)(this price was on sale)
1 granny smith apple ($.25)
1/2 cup apple juice ($.25)
1/4 cup syrup or honey ($.25-$.50)
1/2 bag Green Beans ($.75)
1 box Uncle Bens wild rice and long grain rice ($1.14)
1 T olive oil ($.10)
Garlic powder ($.05)
Salt and pepper
Directions1. Cook rice according to instructions on box. Leave out the seasoning packet! Add your own spices!2. Cook green beans on stovetop or microwave.3. Thaw or cook pork roast...this would be a great way to use leftover pork! Dice apple, throw into skillet. Add apple juice, syrup and walnuts. Saute for 4-6 minutes until juice reduces down. Add pork roast, stir mixture through pork and let cook for 3-4 minutes.4. Serve pork with rice and green beans. A delicious late fall dinner to warm up any tummy!

My kroger ad goes from thurs to wend, so you will have to look online at www.kroger.com to see your weekly ad.
Took a quick look at what coupons were being offered on the left of this page..the coupon button...

krogers has honey nut cheerios 3/$5.00 so you can do this two ways:
1. 3/$5.00 print off one .55 cent coupon, (which doubles) makes them $3.90 or $1.30 each
2. If you can get 3 coupons (which each one will double) 3/$5.00 minus coupons (6 at.55=3.30)
makes the cereal 1.70 for three or .56 cents a box!

Chex Mix is 2.19 (or even lower if you buy 10 particpating products..1.69) using the 2.19 price print off the coupon which is .60 krogers will not double but they normally will round up to dollar, call your store ahead of time to make sure, so total would be 1.19 (if using the 1.69 price would be .69 cents!)

so this week for sure I will be stocking up on Chex Mix, Cereal, and of course my free toilet paper!

White Chicken Chili
This crockpot meal was inspired by Lynn at Lynn's Kitchen Adventures. I modified her recipe slightly...to fit our dietary needs/restrictions.
Ingredients
1 chicken breast ($.75) Remember to buy when on sale for $1.88/lb and freeze!
1/2 onion ($.15)
2 T butter ($.10)
2 T rice flour (use white or wheat flour) ($.05)
1 cup milk or rice milk ($.15)
1 4 oz can green chiles ($.99)
2 garlic cloves, minced ($.05)
1 cup dried beans ($.25)
4 cups water1/2 lb asparagus ($.74)
2 T extra virgin olive oil ($.10)
1/2 cup peas ($.25)
Directions
1. Dice chicken breast. Chop onion. Place chicken, onion, minced garlic, can green chiles, dried beans and water in crockpot. Yes, beans can be uncooked. Just be sure to rinse and sort them!
2. Make homemade white sauce. (You can use a can of cream of chicken soup if you like, but we can't have that, so I make my own!). To make sauce: Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and quickly stir together. Quickly add 1-2 cups milk and WHISK! Sauce will thicken as it cooks. Add more milk for thinner consistency. Add more flour to thicken it up.
3. Add white sauce to crockpot with other ingredients and stir through.
4. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
5. Drizzle EVOO over asparagus. Let sit for 15-20 minutes. Then saute a few minutes until it turns brighter green color. Remove from heat. Serve with crockpot white chicken chili!

The University of Iowa has a new website, Spend Smart Eat Smart, that is all about eating nutritious foods and spending wisely on food. The website has really good information on how to shop, meal plan, how to read labels, recipes and limiting waste. There are interactive quizzes and games that test your knowledge of nutrition and food costs. You can also calculate if your family is spending a reasonable amount of money on food. This is a great resource to guide you on how to shop wisely at the grocery store or reinforce what you already do.

4th. Skippy peanut butter and coupons, pay with the ten dollars they gave me, plus overage. Getting back another ten dollars.
5th. Ragu sauce and coupons. pay with teh ten bucks tehy gave me, plus overage. getting back ten bucks.
6th transaction....with my last ten dollars they gave me I will buy 2 joy and 2 dawn as limit is two (but you can get two of each) and the rest spent on the nuts and other choco they have listed.

Side note two: make sure you get the Walgreens coupons out of the walgreen ad paper, If you did not get them in your Sunday paper, they always have them in the store. Then make sure you go to www.walgreens.com find the easy saver catalog and print off as many of the Mauna Loa Chocolate Covered Macadamias as you can, I am trying for 8.

Side note 3:
When you get the 4 dish soaps (with coupons) if you can get them they way I have listed..meaning coupon totals..... the soaps will be 1.96, the choco covered nuts 8 of them will be 4.00 which means you spent 5.96 out of your ten bucks (less tax of course, you can figure out how much you spend in taxes as each state is differnt) You have to spend the ten dollars, they will not give you change back from a REGISTER REWARD. that being said to spend the rest of my money I am buying the angel soft bathroom tissue with the walgreens instore ad for 1.29 and using a manufactor coupon of $.50 cents making it .$79 so getting 5 of those (3.95) ...so 3.95 plus the 5.96 = 9.91 and tax due.

This is just a short sample and good for this week Jan. 11- Jan 14 at krogers and longer at walgreens ect. (check your sales papers for dates) Some of the coupons I got from the coupon button on the left, some I got from past Sunday papers. Some I got from other sources. BIG HINT: Clip ALL coupons, as you may not use it one week, but can use it another week and sometimes get the item FREE. I used to just buy the store brand as I thought that was the cheapest way to go, but by doing a little research and using your coupons you can get these brand name items cheaper if not free then the store brand!

This week the good deal to look for is the 88 cent sales. which they are having in my area till thursday, thats when there sale week goes to in my area...In my store they have just started taking internet coupons they used not, so call before hand and ask , also ask how many items you can get ,our store limit is three, but sometimes they wave that. Online Transcribing if you can type and spell well you can make a decent amount of money doing this. Basically you will just be transcribing interviews and speeches and you get paid by doing each job. There are a couple sites where you can get hired doing this. These two sites are meant for people with really good typing and spelling skills. The first is tigerfish.com, and the other one is productiontranscripts.com. Both of these sites will be quite strict compared to www.contractedwork.com, but you have a better chance of making more money with them. Since I don’t have experience with this work there isn’t much more I can say, but it might be worth a try if you’re interested.

Virtual Jury There are a couple great sites online where you can earn some extra cash by being in a Virtual Jury. The first is onlineverdict.com. Here is how onlineverdict.com works(according to their site). First, Attorneys submit their case information and questions for the jury. Then, as an eligible online juror you may be asked to review cases that are filed in your county or federal district. You will receive an email invitation from OnlineVerdict.com to review the case at your convenience, but once enough responses are received, the case will close and no additional participants are needed. Your email invitation will provide a link to the OnlineVerdict.com website. After you log in you will be directed to the case and asked to agree to the confidentiality policy, review the case materials and answer all questions about that case.
There are no right or wrong answers. We are only looking for your honest reaction to the information that was presented to you. Your time commitment for each case will vary from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on the details of the case, but you always have the option to choose which cases you want to review. The estimated time commitment for each case will be included in your email invitation.After you complete a case you will be paid for your time. Payment amounts vary depending on the complexity and length of the case you review, but payments start at $20 per case and can go up to $60 per case. Checks are mailed once a month to the address you have on file in your OnlineVerdict.com account. This provides the attorney with a tremendous amount of feedback which he/she will use to establish a settlement value, find strengths and weaknesses in the evidence, learn “public” attitudes, improve jury selection, discover the most effective arguments,….
The typical eJury case works like this:Step 1: The attorney prepares the Case Submission which consists of facts from the perspectives of each party, the jury questions which would be used at trial, and personal questions designed to obtain additional feedback.Step 2: eJury converts the attorney’s Case Submission into an “html format” and posts it to a secure location on our website where only eJurors in the county of selection can access the case. The eJurors in that county are then notified by e-mail that a new case has been posted.Step 3: The eJurors return to our website, log in, and begin reviewing the facts and answering the questions, each clicking a “Submit Verdict” button upon completion. Once the minimum number of verdicts have been rendered (usually 50), the case automatically concludes. A case summary is posted later for those interested in seeing the results.
The pay on these sites varies anywhere from $5-$60. eJury Pay less than OnlineVerdict, but eJury usually has more cases available. These usually take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to complete, and you will probably be able to make it shorter as you do more of them. eJury requires that you enter your Drivers License number when you sign up, which makes some people hesitant to sign up, but both of these companies are legit and are safe to sign up for. They are a great way to make some extra money each month, and are quite different than most online money making opportunities.

How to save money playing the shopping game

As background, let me say that I shop at the three biggest drugstore chains: CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid. I save about $200-300 per month over what I would have paid at Target's best price (i.e., with sales and coupons). My personal policy now is to not pay for shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, and dishwashing soap, unless my favorite version is on steep sale or I need a very specific version. I also save on necessities like paper goods, baby items, over the counter medication, and food. If you want to do the same, here's how you can get started:

First, you need to understand how store coupons and manufacturer coupons work together. Coupons that come with the Sunday newspaper are most commonly manufacturer coupons that can be used at any store that takes coupons. Manufacturer coupons can usually be combined with a store coupon, which is a coupon that is put out by the store. For example, if you have a $1 off Pantene manufacturer coupon and a $1 off Pantene CVS coupon, you can use both coupons at CVS to get $2 off a bottle of shampoo.

The next thing you need to understand is how the various store rewards and rebate programs work. Each major drugstore has its own program and each is a little different. For example, CVS has the ExtraCare program https://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/user/extracare/extracare.jsp- Extra Bucks (also known as ExtraCare Bucks, or ECBs) are coupons that print at the end of your receipt after qualifying purchases. ECBs can be used like cash on future purchases.

Walgreens has a program that's somewhat similar to the ExtraCare program called Register Rewards, which are coupons that print out after you make a qualifying purchase. Walgreens also has the monthly Easy Saver rebate program.http://www.walgreens.com/store/rebateclub.jsp Each month, Walgreens comes out with the Easy Saver catalog, which includes many rebate offers as well as coupons. After you make your purchases, you submit the required information and wait until you get your rebate. You'll receive an extra 10% on your rebate if you have the rebate credited to a Walgreens gift card.

Rite Aid has the Single Check Rebate program,https://riteaid.rebateplus.com/default.asp?jse=yes which is similar to Walgreens' program. Like Walgreens, Rite Aid puts out a monthly rebate booklet that lists that month's offers. Make your qualifying purchases, enter your information online, and wait for your check.

The key to success and big savings in The Drugstore Game is understanding how coupons and rewards programs work together. This can be tricky, but it is absolutely worth mastering. For example, last week, CVS offered a Sunday-and-Monday only deal of free-after-ECB L'Oreal Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle Serum. If you paid $11.99, you got $11.99 back in ECBs. But wait! If you used a $2 off $10 purchase coupon that was available online last month, and a $3 off L'Oreal Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle product coupon from a previous Sunday newspaper, you'd only pay $6.99 and still get $11.99 back in ECBs. In other words, you'd "make" $5 to spend at CVS on things you'd be buying anyway, like food or diapers or toilet paper.

In order to play The Drugstore Game at a high level, you need a game plan before you head out the door. The key to a good game plan is good sources of information. You could sit at home poring over the weekly and monthly drugstore circulars, or you could simply visit the sites that do all the math for you. I rely on coupon forums like A Full Cup http://afullcup.com/, SlickDeals http://www.slickdeals.net/, FatWallet http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/, and Hot Coupon World http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/for previews of upcoming ads, highlighted deals with coupon match ups, and tips on how the deals are working (for instance, sometimes the ECBs on a deal don't print properly for the first couple of days of the sale, or a deal that's advertised as a weekly deal is actually a monthly deal so there's no need to rush to the store).

There are also some fabulous blogs that put together lists of the weekly deals, lists of items that are free after coupon and/or sale, and scenarios to help get the most bang for your buck. These sites were especially helpful to me when I first started playing The Drugstore Game and didn't quite understand all of the in's and out's of the game. Finally, let me offer a few suggestions to help you get started:

Pick a week and start on Sunday. Better yet, buy an early edition of the Sunday paper and start on Saturday.

Get organized. At the beginning, you may find it easiest to clip every coupon and file them in a multi-pocket folder, shoebox or plastic container, although some people really like to use a binder and still others use hanging folders. I'm still working on my own coupon organization system, so I'm not the best person to give advice in this area. Eventually, you'll figure out what works for you.

Check out the sites listed above and decide what you would like to buy. Create your scenarios and write them down, including the coupons you plan to use. Create some alternative scenarios as well, in case some of the items are out of stock. This does take some time at the beginning, but trust me, it'll take a lot less time once you get the hang of it.

Before you leave the house, make sure you have your coupons and scenarios. I like to bring all of my coupons since I never know when I might spot an unadvertised or clearance deal that I can't pass up. I also recommend bringing a calculator in case you have to re-work some of your deals, and the weekly and monthly circulars. (If you forget the circulars or don't have them yet, you should be able to pick them up at the front of the store.) The circulars are handy because stores don't always mark the shelves properly, and sometimes the only way to tell which item qualifies for a deal is to check the printed circular.

One final word of advice: Sometimes using a lot of coupons can create problems with the registers, which are programmed in a certain way. And sometimes cashiers and managers have attitude problems with customers using coupons. Even if there's no excuse for the treatment you're getting when you're checking out, please try to always remain polite and courteous. It's good for all Drugstore Game players if the stores think of us as their best customers!

For large or extended families put everyone’s name in a hat and have each family member draw a name and buy a gift for that one person.
Limit your gift list. If you prefer not to exchange gifts with a friend, neighbour, or co-worker this year, just say so. It’s very likely that she’s trying to pare down her Christmas list too!

I have a closet that I keep my samples in, they are wonderful to have on hand. examples that I use them for: personal items such as toothpaste,shampoo ect are great for camping or any lil trip you might take and need such items.
